Modern-looking and Masculine Website for Beer Connoisseur
Chris Cohen is a San Francisco-based beer geek. He's one of just 149 Advanced Cicerones®, a National BJCP judge, and is the co-founder and a current Board Member of the SF Homebrewers Guild, San Francisco's main homebrew club. In 2016 he opened one of San Francisco's best beer bars - Old Devil Moon.
Chris is known in the beer industry as one of the first experts who created the guides to prepare for the Cicerone exams (an analog to sommelier certification, but in the beer world).
He launched the Beer Scholar website in 2014 to help aspiring beer geeks avoid the preparation pitfalls he faced. Thousands have used his Beer Scholar guides to crush the Cicerone exams in the decade since.
Chris came to us with a request to redesign his website as well as help him launch an email funnel and set up all the necessary automations to sell online courses.
We created a modern-looking and masculine website for Beer Scholar, featuring warm photography, muted color palette, and stand-out typography. We also helped Chris with website copywriting: We start each project by creating a black and white wireframe to give our clients a copywriting fill-in-the-blanks “template” of sorts.
We also helped Chris style the Teachable platform for his new courses and set up a complex email funnel that involves multiple tools, such as Squarespace, Zapier, Mailchimp, and Deadline Funnel. We set up the automatic freebie delivery funnel, onboarding flows, and deadline-enabled offers.
The resulting website is an automated business machine that is making sales on autopilot.
It was a really fun project to work on - the first project where we handled not just the creative part, but the business automation part as well. It is astonishing to see how all the moving parts work together and bring results to our clients.
